ABOUT ME
Hello friend! Thanks for stopping by my webpage. My name is Anna Lem and I am a teacher candidate. I am currently enrolled in the MAT program at Antioch University in Seattle. This website is my portfolio that reflects my teaching during internships in the elementary schools and my works in the MAT program. Most of my works are lesson plans where I share my ideas in various subject areas as language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science.
So, who am I as a human being? And who am I as a teacher? I think it is important to differentiate here as my multicultural identity characterizes me as a teacher. It also will help you to distinguish me as a teacher before I dive in deeply into my teaching philosophy.
I am a Korean woman born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and my first language is Russian. As Uzbekistan was a member country of USSR, Russian and Uzbek cultures synthesized over the years and most people who were born in Uzbekistan during USSR era represent a mix of these two cultures like my parents, my in-laws, my husband, and I. But all of us are Koreans and all Asians are very good at preserving their own culture. So, as a result, I can say that I represent three different cultures – Korean, Russian and Uzbek. You probably have a question about languages I know. I speak fluently Russian and English. I can also understand basic Korean and Uzbek. And in my college, I also studied French. I deeply love this language, but right now I almost forgot it. I can easily read it though. This is what I like the most in French, phonetics rules are simple and work in every word. If you learn them, you will remember for live.
Before moving to the United States, my husband and I lived in Moscow, Russia for five years. And then in 2017, we moved to the United States. We spent some time in Dallas area and then moved to Renton. Our daughter Diana was born in 2018 and our small family of three lives in Kent now.
